We love welcoming and working with schools. If your school would like to visit any of our churches or work together on projects and activities, then please get in touch!
It could mean creating a herb garden like the children of Moorland School in Splott (above) or participating together in Refugee Week and Windrush Day like the children of St Mary’s, St Paul’s, Mount Stuart and St Cuthbert’s School (below).

Or it could be working together as part of The Day of the Soup during the Great Winter Get Together. You can learn more at the More in Common link below.

Our Church Schools
We obviously have a special relationship with our two Church in Wales Primary schools in Grangetown and Butetown, St Paul’s and St Mary the Virgin, and you can find out more about them here.
St Paul’s Primary School

A thriving school in the heart of Grangetown, St Paul’s has a warm, friendly ethos and promotes an inclusive, diverse and supportive environment for all members of its community.
Each week in school, the parish clergy lead a time of collective worship in School, and on Wednesday mornings we celebrate Mass with a different year group each week at St Paul’s Church. The children participate by reading and leading the prayers, and the worship is child friendly.
Members of our congregation serve alongside others as members of the Governing Body.
St Mary the Virgin Primary School

St Mary’s is a diverse school in the heart of Butetown. Within a Christian environment we welcome children of all faiths and none, and provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
On Wednesday morning, as Muslim children remain in school for their time together, others gather at St Mary’s Church for Mass. The children participate by reading and leading the prayers.
We also have members of our congregation who are part of the Governing Body, and work with the school to strengthen the life of our community.
Faithful Butetown Discovery Days

Check out what’s on offer for schools with an exciting Faithful Butetown Discovery Day. Come and spend the whole day with us!
We offer a fascinating glimpse into a vibrant community with a wonderful learning opportunity for Schools.
Resources

Our churches provide a wonderful opportunity in the delivery of the curriculum, and we love to welcome schools, and share what we have, and our clergy are also more than happy to visit schools.
The following resources give some ideas on how we can use the rich heritage and history of St Mary’s, for example, in the delivery of the curriculum. We hope to be able to publish more resources for our other churches in the future.
We welcome visits from schools, and we can tailor your visit to your needs. Our churches are also used as a venue by schools for such things as Christmas and Harvest celebrations through the year.
Walls and Windows

With Notes for Teachers, ideas for activities, and worksheets for children, this pack offers insights into a thousand years of history and faith from Norman Conquest to Victorian Times and the Industrial Revolution, from World War II to the present day.
Whether its history or geography, Science or Art and Design, Literacy and Numeracy, or Global Citizenship or RE, St Mary’s is rich in resources to make your visit a fruitful one!
The Mystery of the Stone Head

Solve ‘The Mystery of the Stone Head’ in the first of a series of adventure booklets for children.
An A5 booklet guiding children through a thousand years of history to present day ‘Tiger Bay’ and the rich multicultural heritage and life of Butetown.
Along the way, we’ll meet some important (although often forgotten) people, like Fr Jones of Cardiff and Alderman Hughes, the First Lord Mayor of the City of Cardiff.
‘The Mystery of the Stone Head’ helps children to discover something of the history of Cardiff, and the place that faith has had in its growth to be the city it is today. We look forward to welcoming you!
God’s Garden Adventure
Are you ready to go on a journey? We won’t be going very far and there’ll be a few stops along the way.
We’ll be stopping at beautifully coloured crosses hidden amongst the bushes and plants and trees. So keep your eyes peeled. There’s lots to see, and lots to think about. Ready? Let’s go!
